Brussels, 01/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - Following the French 'No' vote on the European Constitution, the very persistent President of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), Peter Straub, said that work was continuing and ways and means had to be found to progress the EU project and get out of the current temporary political difficulties. He said elected officials in cities and regions should become transmission belts for the EU with public opinion, and greater use should be made of them to do a better job of explaining Europe to citizens. Nobody can fail to be aware of this now, he added. Straub said the CoR had deliberately committed itself to the Constitution at the Summit of European Cities and Regions in Wroclaw on 19/20 May (see Europe No. 8951).
