23/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - Results from the first referendum on the European Constitution on 20 February in Spain (EUROPE 22 February p 3) was welcomed by the president of the Committee of the Regions, Peter Straub. He declared that, this is not only a great result for Spain but also for all the regions and cities of Europe. The press release pointed out that the constructional treaty clearly recognised the role and powers of local government.
