WTO opens doors to Afghanistan and Iraq but not to Iran

Brussels, 13/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - The World Trade Organisation (WTO) gave the go-ahead on Monday to the opening of accession negotiations with Iraq and Afghanistan but once again rejected Iran's candidacy, due to opposition from the USA.

The 148 members of the WTO General Council meeting unanimously approved the Baghdad and Kabul candidacies, which opens the door to a long accession process that could last several years. According to AFP, the Iraqi trade minister, Mohammed Al-Jibourin...
