09/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - During a press conference, Dutch Green member Joost Lagendijk confirmed on Thursday that his group at the European Parliament supports the report by Dutch Christian Democrat Camiel Eurlings, who recommends the immediate opening of accession talks with Turkey (see EUROPE of 2 December, p.6). He stressed that, during the plenary examination next week, many amendments will come from French and German EPP members who wish to introduce a second option alongside accession, the preferential partnership (see EUROPE of 8 December, p.5). Evoking his visit to Turkey last weekend with President Borrell, Joost Lagendijk, who is also president of the EP delegation for relations with Turkey's Grand National Assembly, said that, when it comes to implementation of reforms, half the road has already been covered in Turkey but that it is now necessary to complete the work.
