THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/romania

09/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - The EPP-ED Group does not rule out the fact that it can call for deferral of the vote by the European Parliament on the report by Pierre Moscovici on Romania because of the uncertainty still existing concerning the unfolding of the first round of presidential elections and parliamentary elections of 28 November. The vote on the Moscovici report in plenary session is normally scheduled for next week. "We should like to obtain some more information on these elections", Mr Pöttering told journalists on Thursday. The EPP Group will take a decision on Monday on the basis of the additional information that it expects to receive between then and now as well as the results of the second round of presidential elections, scheduled for this weekend. "We shall see on Monday whether the vote is to be postponed till January 2005. All options are open", he said.
