EP changes proposed directive to take account of new Member States

Strasbourg, 24/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - Following its rapporteur, the Dutch Socialist Dorette Corbey, the European Parliament changed (codecision, first reading) the "revised packaging directive" to take account of the situation in the ten new Member States. On 11 February, hence before enlargement, Parliament and Council approved the modification of the packaging and packing waste directive from 1994, to include higher re-utilisation and recycling objectives for 31 December 2008.
