23/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - MEPs Bart Staes (Belgian Green), Vytautas Landsbergis (EPP-ED, Lithuania) and Sara Ludford (British Liberal) were seeking to introduce five mothers of Russian soldiers who work in committees seeking to get Chechen leaders and two leaders from the Chechen government of Mr Maskhadow, Akmed Zkayev and Usman Ferzauli, to peace negotiations. On Monday, however, Bert Staes said that Belgium had refused to employ emergency procedure for granting visas to the Soldiers' mothers. In a press statement, the MEP added that the Russian soldiers' mothers had informed them that they had been waiting for then years to get peace negotiations between all the sides involved in the conflict in Chechnya and that they were prepared to wait a few weeks longer to get the visas for Belgium.
