EU "respects right" of Macedonia to organise referendum on decentralisation, but underlines serious consequences of delay in future relations with Skopje and EU

Brussels, 02/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - In a declaration adopted on 2 November in the name of the EU, the Dutch presidency drew attention to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on the subject of the consequences that the referendum announced for 7 November on decentralisation could have on its future relations with the EU. The declaration is as follows:

"The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has applied for EU membership. In this context, all efforts should be geared...
