Commission proposes 50% reduction in co-funding for market measures in cases of foot and mouth and swine fever

Brussels, 02/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 26 October the European Commission adopted a proposal for 50% Community co-financing for exceptional support measures for markets in Member States affected by epizooties such as foot and mouth disease and swine fever.

In the absence of precise rules, Community funding of 100% had prevailed until the beginning of the 1990s. But during the swine fever in Germany in 1994, the Commission decided to reduce its contribution to 70% of support, rates which...
