New committee president Anne-Marie Sigmund wants strengthened role for committee in institutional framework

Brussels, 02/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - During October's plenary session, the European Economic and social Committee (EESC), as expected, elected its Austrian president, Anne-Marie Sigmund, who until then had been the president of the various activities group at the EESC (EUROPE 27 October p 17). The president outgoing, Roger Briesch (workers group, France) and Dimitrios Simitriadis (employers group, Greece) were elected EESC vice presidents.
