Council political agreement on penalising marine pollution - Commission disappointed by compromise adopted

Luxembourg, 11/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - In Luxembourg on Friday, the Transport Council reached political agreement on the proposed directive to penalise marine pollution caused by ships. The compromise enables Member States to impose criminal or administrative penalties in cases of marine pollution due to illegal discharge brought about intentionally, by serious negligence or by carelessness.
