11/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Spanish trade union Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) has urged the parties standing in the European elections to publish their views of the services directive unveiled by the European Commission in January. USO is challenging the 'ultraliberal vision' and 'wild liberalisation' being proposed by Commissioner Frits Bolkestein. Apart from the police, the legal system and the armed forces, no public services will be free of charge and we will have to pay for our post, our hospitals and education, notes the USO in a press release. The Commission, however, says that the directive only covers services that have already been opened up to competition. (See yesterday's EUROPE, p. 18).
