Member States delays in application of European passports for animals - Commission adopts provisional measures for resolving problem

Brussels, 09/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Most Member States are not ready to implement the new system by the agreed deadline of 3 July this year for the distribution of the passports to veterinarians. To avoid the risk of penalising citizens seeking to travel abroad this summer with their animals, the European Commission has offered a flexible solution to ensure that pets will have the necessary documents for travel within the Community.
