Brussels, 09/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday Portugal put a stop to European election campaigning this week in a mark of respect for the sudden death of Antonio Sousa Franco, head of the main opposition Socialist Party. Mr Sousa Franco, 61 had been a minister of finance, Governor of the Central Bank of Portugal and president of the Court of Auditors. He died of a heart attack. The number two on the list is former minister of justice, Antoni Costa.
