Brussels, 25/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Vienna Observatory's report on anti-Semitism, publication of which was blocked last year (creating serious tension between the European Commission and representatives of the Jewish Community in Europe and America), will be launched in Strasbourg next Wednesday, on the initiative of the European Parliament. President Cox, his spokesperson David Harley told the press on Thursday, very much wanted the Parliament to be involved in presenting this important report to the public.
Mr Harley said that the report on anti-Semitism in Europe in 2002-2003 was the fruit of intense work over two years, and that the version to be presented in Strasbourg will be even fuller than that which was not published last year. Pat Cox, Beate Winkler (director of the Vienna Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia), and Cobi Benatoff, President of the European Jewish Congress, will present the report in Strasbourg on 31 March, and Ms Winkler and Mr Benatoff will then take part in a round table of the Committee on Civil Liberties of the EU, on the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe.
