Mr Erdogan pleads in favour of accession - Mr Verheugen: we must recognise Turkey's progress, but no decision on its accession should be expected this decade

Brussels, 12/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - During last Friday's International Bertelsmann Forum in Berlin, the Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan re-affirmed that Turkey wishes to "belong to the family of the European Union", saying that "there are not many other candidate countries where 75% of the population has pronounced itself" in favour of joining.
