Brussels, 07/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Quaestors' Group of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) presented to the EESC Bureau, which met on 28 October in Brussels under the chairmanship of Roger Briesch, its revised preliminary draft of the statute of EESC members. This draft statute was the subject of a policy debate and could be adopted during the plenary session in December. The statute does not exist for now, Thomas Jansen, Head of Cabinet for President Briesch, stressed. He recalled that Mr Briesch includes the statute among the priorities of his term of office (see also EUROPE of 14 December 2002, p.17), and trusts that this statute will be adopted before EU enlargement on 1 May 2004. The three Quaestors - Jean-Michel Bloch-Lainé (Various Interests, France), Alfons De vadder (Emplohers, Belgium) and Daniel Retureau (Workers, France) - mainly specify how the advisers are appointed, the general conditions of their mandate, the rules concerning their activities and possibly their failure to fulfil obligations, their relations with the other institutions, and the obligation of transparency and visibility mainly toward citizens.
