Commission may open inquiry on Tuesday and send letter of formal notice to Italy on "salva calcio" decree

Brussels, 07/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission is expected to attack the Italian "salva calcio" decree allowing Italian A and B division football clubs to stagger over ten years losses relating to amortisation in the price paid for players (see EUROPE of 4 November, p.10). The Commission spokesman confirmed on Friday that it will be giving its stance on opening an inquiry, under competition policy, and send a formal letter of notice under internal market...
