05/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Dutch Green member Joost Lagendijk on the process of stabilisation and association in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament stressed that that EU must open up a "European perspective" for the countries of the region while insisting on respect of human rights. Also, MEPs said the EU should play an active role in settling the question of the definitive status of Kosovo in the next two years, a press release states. It specifies that, according to the parliamentary committee, the EU should not insist at all cost on keeping the link between Serbia and Montenegro, but should allow them to decide themselves on the way that they wish to continue with their relationship. EUROPE will come back to this.
