Brussels, 05/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised Belgium to grant a proposed € 12.45 million to provide Spanolux with regional aid a for large investment projects. Active in the development and production of medium density fibreboard (MDF), the company has set up in the province of Luxembourg. The project involves the production of laminated flooring, a new Spanolux product. The total investment amounts to € 77.52 million and covers the period 2001-2007. The investment will allow a better use of wood resources in the south of Belgium and give the opportunity to transform wood of less quality. The project will also allow Spanolux to achieve a vertical integration, from wood supply to the end product in the form of laminated flooring. As the proposed aid intensity is within the maximum aid threshold, the Commission decided to approve the aid. The aid will help to create some 277 jobs.
