Strasbourg, 23/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption, in Strasbourg on Thursday, of a resolution on the situation in Bolivia, the European Parliament has taken note of the first statement by President Carlos Mesa Gisbert and of his commitment to govern in a spirit of dialogue, by holding a referendum on the energy issue and on the anticipated elections, and to make the political system more democratic in order to make it more participative, especially for Aymara and Quetchua Indians. The Parliament has asked for an exhaustive inquiry to be carried out into the violence of the last week which led to the resignation of former President Sanchez de Lozada. The resolution also provides for a delegation of the European Parliament to be sent to Bolivia, to look at the situation on the ground and propose aid to help the new government to find a solution to the urgent problems facing it.
