Strasbourg, 23/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption, in Strasbourg on Thursday, of a joint resolution by five political groups (EPP-ED, PES, ELDR, Greens/FTA, GUE/NGL), the European Parliament is calling upon the Italian Presidency to take immediate action for a proposed resolution to be table to the General Assembly of the United Nations, which is being held in New York at the moment, calling for the adoption of a universal moratorium on capital punishment. The Parliament enjoins the institutions of the EU and the Member States to do all they can, politically and diplomatically, to ensure the best possible support of this resolution.
