Commission suggests EUR 47.6 million of Solidarity Fund should be earmarked for Italy, and 8.6 million for Spain

Brussels, 16/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - As we had announced, the European Commission suggested on Wednesday that aid from the Solidarity Fund against natural disasters should be earmarked for Italy and Spain. The Commission calls on the European Parliament and the Council, which must decide by common accord, to grant Italy EUR 30.8 million for the earthquake that hit the regions of Molise and Puglia, and 16.8 million for the damage caused in Sicily by the eruption of Etna.
