Brussels, 14/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - "Member status for the Committee of the Regions (at the Convention) would have considerably enhanced its legitimacy", Members of the Committee state in the Resolution on the Convention recommendations, adopted in plenary on 2 and 3 July. The CoR thus calls on the IGC to "provide for the full participation of representatives of the Committee of the Regions". It also hopes that its advisory function will be strengthened by including in the Treaty a "clause stipulating that the coR shall be consulted in areas of shared competence, for measurse to coordinate economic and employment policies". It also wants the right to be involved in the ex-ante arrangements for monitoring application of the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, like that recognised in the draft treaty for national parliaments.
