Brussels, 14/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - During his traditional Bastille Day television address, French President Jacques Chirac expressed his hopes that the Eurogroup Ministers, who were meeting that evening in Brussels (see other article) would "look together for possible means of relaxing" the Stability and Growth Pact. He believes Ministers should find "a solution consistent with the imperative of stability, and supportive of growth" when several States are trying to boost a failing economy. Giving his assurance that "it is not a question of changing" the pact, the French President said he hoped that "the specific circumstances of a given country" would be taken account of.
