Brussels, 14/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Committee of the Regions approves the Commission's Green Paper on entrepreneurship in Europe, but regrets that it does not take enough account of the role of local and regional authorities in contributing to the development of entrepreneurship in the EU. Constance Hanniffy, Rapporteur, considers that local authorities play a major role in cutting back red tape, and introducing tax relief. The Committee calls for a support programme to be set in place to help develop relations between enterprises, local universities and research institutes. It also calls on the Commission to "boost the synergies between the European Employment Strategy and the action plan on entrepreneurship and to draw a clear distinction between, inter alia, small, medium and large firms in order to adopt different strategies".
