Not smoking and taking public transport reduces cancer risk caused by benzene exposure - results of "PEOPLE" project to guide political decision-makers

Brussels, 30/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - Smoking and using a car contribute to polluting the air to the detriment of public health. People who smoke in a confined space and spend several hours a day in a car increase their risk of developing cancer. Most people are aware of this, but very few political decision-makers and citizens are capable of assessing the precise impact of everyone's behaviour on their rate of exposure to various potentially lethal pollutants, above the acceptable level...
