30/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The United Nations Convention on the protection of the rights of migrant workers' and their families will come into force on 1 July 2003,e explains the UN in a press release, adding that the 22 first countries to ratify it are mainly emigrant countries. No big immigrant country has ratified it. According to a UN report on international immigration, one out of every 35 human beings is a migrant. An estimated 175 million people live outside their home country (including 16 million refugees). The UN reports that the countries with the highest number of migrants in 2000 were the United States, Russia, Germany, the Ukraine, France, India, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia. The countries with the highest percentage of migrants were the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, Israel, Singapore, Oman, Estonia, Saudi Arabia, Latvia and Switzerland.
