On Tuesday Ecofin Council expected to call on France to reduce its structural deficit by 0.5% in 2004 as suggested by Commission

Brussels, 28/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - Despite a last ditch attempt by Spain and the Netherlands to demand more efforts from Paris in 2003 (EUROPE yesterday p 14), the Ecofin Council is expected, on Tuesday, to adopt without any major changes, the European Commission recommendation of 7 May on procedures for excessive deficit against France.

The Ministers of the Economy and Finance from EU Member States are expected to give France an ultimatum: before 3 October, that all "necessary...
