Commission thinks viability of public finances is threatened in eight Member States - Mr Solbes welcomes measures taken by Berlin

Brussels, 21/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission adopted the report on public finances in the European Monetary and Economic Union (EMU) for 2003. It indicates that the viability of public finances in eight Member States of the Euro-zone is threatened (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Austria and Belgium), particularly because of budgetary consequences and the ageing population.
