11/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has agreed to include the "Bratwurst" sausage from Thuringia (Germany) on the list of protected names of origin (AOP), it was recently announced by the regional minister for agriculture, Volker Sklenar. Gaining this protection puts an end to a long procedure begun in 1998. Furthermore, the request for registration of the "clementinas de la Tierras del Ebro" was published in the Official Journal of the European Communities No C22 of 29 January, in compliance with the regulation on protection of names of origin and geographic indications. This citrus fruit, which comes from the clementina fina, hernandina and nules varieties, is grown in Spain in the Baix Ebre (Catalan) region and Montsià region (Terragona). Its specific characteristics are its accentuated orange colour and juice content above 40% of its total weight.
