Brussels, 11/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - In reaction to Iran's intention to begin processing uranium in its nuclear programme, United Nations and European Union officials called on Tehran to sign a Non-Proliferation Protocol (NPP), which would allow for more complete inspections from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which could be carried out in a very short space of time, following notification. Iran has indicated on several occasions that its nuclear programme is for peaceful means and has invited United Nations inspectors to check on these plants this month. The USA harbours serious doubts as to the peaceful purposes of the Iranian programme.
