Strasbourg, 31/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the Francesco Fiori report on 22 October in Strasbourg (in consultation procedure) on the Commission communication on fuel substitutes in road transport, the European Parliament is supporting the action plan set out by the Commission last November. This plan aims to increase biomass fuels and bring them up to 20% of all European petrol and diesel fuels used by 2020. The Commission communication analyses the dependency problem of the transport sector on fossil fuels, as well as their impact on the environment and proposes an increase of a number of possible fuel substitutes by 2020 (see EUROPE 8 November 2001).
