Brussels, 31/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - Following a technical error, our information on the resolution adopted by the European Parliament last week on Iran may have been misleading (EUROPE of 28/29 October, p.9). Thus, Parliament, notably, following the adoption of amendments: - urged the Council and Member states to reconsider their decision not to table a resolution at the next session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and asked the EU to table a "strong proposal for the next preparatory meetings" (in 2003); - hoped that, "following fruitful talks on human rights, measures will be taken to reduce the need for a United Nations Assembly Resolution in 2004".
Furthermore, in its resolution, Parliament proposes sending an ad hoc delegation to Teheran and to invites a delegation from the Iranian parliament to Brussels "to prepare future parliamentary relations".
