Brussels, 31/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - Several Council and Commission decisions on the fight against terrorism were published in the Official Journal L295 of 30 October 2002. The decisions, adopted by written procedure on 28 October, concern: (1) updating of the general list of persons, groups and entities to which the measures taken to fight terrorism apply; (2) a seventh amendment to the 2002 regulation imposing a freeze of assets against persons and entities connected to the Al-Qaeda network and to the Taliban. The names of two ETA activists, who have been arrested (Ms Ainhoa Mugica Goni and Juan Antonio Olarra Guridi), have been taken off the general list. On the other hand, the name of Ismael Berasategui Escudero (ETA activist from the K. Behorburu group) has been added. Added to the organisations active in third countries is the "New People's Army" of the Philippines and its leader, Jose Maria Sison (alias Armando Liwanag, alias Joma). Furthermore, the Jemaah Islamiya group (alias Jema'ah Islamiyah, jemaah Islamiyah, Jemaah Islamiah, Jamaah Islamiyah, Jama'ah Islamiyah) has been added to the list of entities with links to the Al-Qaeda network, in application of the decision taken on 25 October by the UN committee on sanctions. The group is said to be present in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia and probably in the Philippines. According to the Indonesian police, it is responsible for the recent attack in Bali.
