Clearance to aid in favour of Communicant Semiconductor Technologies

Brussels, 31/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised Germany to pay out aid of EUR 371 million to Communicant Semiconductor Technologies AG as regional aid for large investment projects. The aid will contribute to carrying out a project aimed at building a semiconductor plant in the Land of Brandenburg, and, more especially, a plant for the production of communication chips for specific applications. The project will allow the creation of 1318 direct jobs and 725 indirect jobs. The Commission has been able to establish that the public investors that acquired stakes in Communicant Semiconductor Technologies intervened under the same conditions as private investors and that, consequently, it was able to conclude that their intervention was conform to the rules of the EC Treaty on State aid. The total aid intensity amounts to 23.9% for admissible investment costs of EUR 1553 million. Given that the ceiling of regional aid is 35% in the assisted region in question, the Commission has also given its agreement on this point.
