31/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - An effort of solidarity is needed to finance enlargement, the French Minister for European Affairs, Noëlle Lenoir, stated on the LCI news channel. She was alluding to the disagreement over the British abatement. In her view, "we cannot build Europe if we, the member countries that have an appreciable level of development, do not make an effort towards solidarity" and "this effort must be a collective effort". "If we stabilise aid to agriculture, we must also rethink the way we help the British to meet their European costs", she said.
