In first reading, Parliament endorses draft budget to finance posts connected with enlargement - Tough negotiations likely with Council over external actions

Strasbourg, 24/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - In Strasbourg on Thursday, the European Parliament adopted in first reading the draft budget for 2003 proposing a funding solution for the extra posts required by enlargement across the EU institutions. The draft budget will overshoot the external action heading ceiling by EUR 75 million (EUR 60 million of the overspend being for Afghanistan, and EUR 12 million for the World Health Fund), with an overshoot of EUR 27 million for structural actions (to...
