France and Germany reach agreement over agricultural expenditure - Better prospects for informal Council - Chirac raises British rebate issue again

Brussels, 24/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - Barely two hours ahead of the opening ceremony in Brussels, French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder reached agreement at a bilateral meeting to maintain the financial framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (the CAP) until 2006 at the level decided at the European Council of Berlin in 1999 and to start implementing an upper limit on agricultural spending from 2007 to 2013, taking account of inflation.
