Greece, United Kingdom and France call on EU Member states to increase their budget devoted to defence - Setting up of fora bringing together national armaments directors

Retymnon, 07/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - At their informal meeting in Rethymnon, the defence ministers of the Fifteen discussed the European Military Capabilities Action Plan (ECAP). Greek Minister Yannos Papantoniou declared that he had received a clear commitment from ministers to achieve the Helsinki objectives in 2003, i.e., the EU's ability to deploy 60,000 troops within 60 days for at least a year.
