Lamy says appeal against European sugar subsidies is "very bad news" for ACP countries

Brussels, 07/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, Commissioner Pascal Lamy said that Brazil and Australia's appeal at the WTO against European sugar subsidies was "very bad news" for African, Caribbean and Pacific countries (ACPs). After meetings in Athens to prepare for the Greek Presidency, Lamy said that if Brazil and Australia destabilise the EU subsidy system, they would be destabilising the Sugar Protocol, but the real problem was not for the EU, but for ACPs, from which the EU imports...
