Brussels, 24/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 24 September, the Danish Presidency made the following declaration on behalf of the EU: "The European Union condemns the violence which has been directed in Cote d'Ivoire against a legitimate government and deplores the loss of human life it has caused. It reaffirms its commitment to a political solution including all the parties involved, in the spirit of national reconciliation initiated in October 2001, which it supported. It recalls that, in the proceedings which will follow from the events of 19 September 2002, it attaches the utmost importance to respect for legality and human rights."
