05/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday evening, in plenary, when presenting the communication on streamlining annual policy coordination of economic and employment policy (see yesterday's EUROPE, pp.10/14), adopted by the European Commission the same day, Commissioner Pedro Solbes Mira (Economic and Monetary Affairs) admitted that, on the question of the duration of the Broad Economic Policy Guidelines, "there is no good solution". He said that, what is important, is that one should be able to speak of the changes needed each year. In answer to questions by MEPs on the possibility of bringing the Stability Pact back into question, he firmly stated that "the Stability Pact is in Community legislation, which must be applied to the letter".
