Mr Putin might Boycott EU/Russia summit

Moscow, 05/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Addressing the press in Moscow on Wednesday, after returning from Brussels, where he had presented new proposals on solving the Kaliningrad issue to the European Commission on Monday and the Danish Presidency. The problem of Kaliningrad will arise after the enlargement of the European Union to include Poland and Lithuania (see EUROPE 4 September p 8). Dimitry Rogozine, President Putin's Special Envoy warned the EU once again of the massive importance Russia attached to this issue. According to Moscow it impacts on the overall development of relations with the European Union and Russia. President Putin may even boycott the EU/Russia Summit planned for 11 November in Copenhagen if no other "mutually acceptable" solution is not found between now and the summit on the question of transit and visas, asserted Mr Rogozine.
