Brussels, 15/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - Adopting the report by its President, Elmar Brok (CDU, Germany) on progress in implementing the Common Foreign and Security Policy in the EU, the EP's Foreign Affairs Committee confirmed that the war on terrorism must become a key element of the CFSP (see José Maria Aznar's statements in EUROPE of 12 October, p.6). The report, which will be discussed in the second plenary session in October in Strasbourg, stresses the need for EU countries to make sufficient funds available to meet their commitments under the CFSP, and strengthen the parliamentary dimension of the CFSP through closer contact between the European Parliament, national parliaments and NATO's Parliamentary Assembly (liaison with the latter has been stepped up in recent months, Ed).
