Brussels, 26/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission's White Paper on Governance (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.7) was sent to all the associations, NGOs and other bodies of the civil society that had contributed to the preparatory phase, accompanied by a letter from President Prodi. The latter invites them to take part in the new phase of consultation on the content of the White Paper and the reform intentions it presents. The President writes: "The White Paper will launch a further phase of consultation and I hope I can rely on your experience and collaboration. I am firmly convinced that our cooperation must continue: the success of this enterprise can only be achieved if we all pull together. Let's make it a success for all of us as citizens of the European Union".
Mr Prodi defined the White Paper as the "first attempt to bring together those who work on European policy and those who are affected by it. It aims to provide the basis for a new pact between the Union and its people". The text of the White Paper will be reproduced in our EUROPE/Documents series.
