26/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European-American Industrial Council (EAIC), a grouping of business executives from European companies of US parentage, provided its support for the Commission's "Single Sky" project on air traffic management in Europe, at a meeting with Commissioner Loyola de Palacio. "Air transport is a critical component of the economic infrastructure of Europe. If the current air traffic management system is not improved there will be a significant negative impact on European competitiveness", declared EAIC President Robert W. Elliot in a press release. He recalls that, according to Commission estimates, delays linked to the problem of traffic management represented a loss of 5.4 billion euro a year for the European economy. You may recall that Ms. de Palacio has postponed the adoption of her proposals to the Commission on a Single Sky, waiting for a solution to the problem of Gibraltar between Spain and the United Kingdom.
