Luxembourg, 26/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - According to Eurostat, the computer and information services balance (C&I services) in the EU recorded a surplus of EUR 2.5 billion in 1999, with EUR 7.5 billion in exports and 5.1 billion in imports. Computer services represent 60% of Community exports and 85% of Community imports, the remaining share coming to information services. With external transactions of EUR 12.6 billion, the EU is the main world operator in C&I services. The United States is by far the main extra-EU partner. The Union is a net supplier of C&I services to all countries, except the United Sates with which it has a deficit of EUR 0.6 billion. Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom have been the most active Member States in 1999, being at the source of more than half the total external EU transactions in this sector.
