THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) bosnia-herzegovina

05/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - Last Saturday, a Bosnian-Croat conference dominated by the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) came down in favour of the creation of a provisional autonomous region, unless the Westerners repeal amendments to the electoral code which, according to that party, would reduce its weight in the Parliament of the Croat-Muslim Federation (see EUROPE of 24 February, p.5, for the EU's declaration welcoming the formation of the new Council of Ministers in Bosnia-Herzegovina, four months after the elections). The congress also called for the opening of international talks on the setting up of a Bosnian Federation made up of three entities, whereas the 1995 Dayton Accords had set up a Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina composed of the Croat-Muslim Federation and the Serb Republic of Bosnia.
