Kirkhope report calls for minimum fine of EUR 5000 for carriers bringing illegal immigrants into EU

Brussels, 05/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption, by a one vote majority, of the report by Timothy Kirkhope (British Conservative) on the harmonisation of sanctions imposed on carriers bringing third country nationals without the required entry papers into the territory of Member States, the EP Committee on Public Freedoms felt it is essential that, in order to fight effectively against illegal immigration, all Member States should have a mechanism fixing the obligations of hauliers...
